POUNDING HEAVEN FOR OUR KIDS

As Children’s Pastors/Directors do we pound heaven for the children in our ministry? Do we train Primary Disciplers (parents, etc.) how/what to pray for their children?

Sunday Plus Curriculum includes a weekly topic of prayer for parents which connects to the Biblical truth their children are taught that week. There is also a simple suggestion of what to talk about through the week. Below are a few samples.

Fathers pray for your children

Fathers Pray for Your Children

GOD’S WORD

Ask the Triune  God to give your child a hunger for His Word; ask God to provide understanding as your child reads.  Talk often about how you have used God’s Word to guide you through a day, a tough situation, a joyous time.

HIS STORY BEGINS

Ask the Triune God to give your child a craving for God and not His creation. Talk often about your relationship with the Triune God; share a daily God sighting.

MADE IN HIS IMAGE

Ask the Triune God to give your child insight into the importance of being made in God’s image – how that makes humans unique from the rest of creation.  Point out the uniqueness of your child from all the rest of creation, one thing at a time; mention the responsibilities we have due to that uniqueness.

ADAM AND EVE SIN

Ask the Triune God to give your child an awareness of his/her separation from God, and understanding of what this means for eternity. Share your awareness of sin in your own life and your need for forgiveness.

GOD’S PLAN FOR YOU

Pray that Almighty God will give your child a desire to surrender to Him, a desire to walk with Him. Share with your child how you came to surrender to the Triune God; how has it made a difference in your life?

 GOD SHOWS MERCY TO MANKINDhandsreachingup

Ask God to show your child his/her sin; to make him/her aware of the need for mercy. Talk every day of God’s mercy and for what you need mercy.

About Wanda

I have worked with children and families for over 40 years in both secular and Christian settings. • Following college I joined VISTA (Volunteers In Service To America) and served in a migrant labor camp in Texas. • After VISTA I married Joe Parker. Joe was a Boy’s Club Director and we served in several inner city and barrio areas in So. California. • I served as Children’s Director and Family Pastor in three Orange County Churches. During this time I was a co—founder of CCMA • Right after the Los Angeles riots, and while serving as Family Pastor at Mariners Church in Newport Beach, Campus Crusade approached me to develop a reproducible ministry to reach children in inner city areas of America, known today as S.A.Y. Yes! Centers of America. • In 1998 I was invited along with 25 others, representing every continent of the world, to be part of a symposium in England. This was the initial gathering for the creation of a curriculum to equip people working with children living in difficult circumstances. Celebrating Children is taught today in Christian universities around the world. • In 2001 KidTrek was begun, a unique ministry to equip the Church to disciple children. Married for 47 years, I have three married children and eight grandchildren who walk with the Lord. The greatest gift a mother could ever have.
